Whether happiness is a goal or a lifestyle is completely up to you. Either way, it’s surely something you can’t live without. If you’re in need of some inspiration, here are no-brainer ways to find happiness from A to Z:

Appreciate all the beauty that the world has to offer.

No one can deny the natural beauty that mountains, sunsets, beaches, and countless wonders of the world have to offer. However, there are also other beautiful things in life that people tend to overlook.

There is beauty to be found in a child who is laughing like there is no tomorrow and in celebrating milestones. There is also beauty in holidays spent with loved ones, and anywhere else that you may go, as long as you choose to see it.

Be yourself.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind. Sound familiar?

Of course it does.

Dr. Seuss knew exactly what he was talking about when he reminded that the world that you should never be ashamed for being who you truly are.

Choose to love.

Love is the one thing that is able to transcend differences in race, country, nationality, age, gender, and religion. The world becomes a better place when people see the importance of showing love, not feeling entitled to receive it. You must remember that you are not born for love; you are born to Iove.

Do random acts of kindness whenever and wherever you can.

Making someone smile doesn’t require you to move mountains. It can be through paying for a stranger’s meal or buying your loved ones flowers.

It can also be simply holding the door open for the person walking behind you.

Even the smallest acts of kindness go a long way, because what seems like a small thing to you can mean the world to someone else.

Enjoy the little things.

Grab every opportunity that comes your way.

Like they say, you only regret the chances that you didn’t take. Years from now, odds are that you won’t be dwelling on the decisions you ended up making, but on the risks you were too afraid to take.

Sure, maybe not all of the risks you take will pay off in the end, but you have more to lose when you decide not to try at all.

Hold on to hope.

The typical saying is to step out of your comfort zone, but life’s too short that you have to leap out of it.

There may be reassurance to be found in sticking to what’s familiar, but there’s more to be gained by trying something new. It only takes one deep breath and a burst of confidence to surpass your limits and start truly living.

Keep an open heart and mind.

Things won’t always be the way you want them to be, but that’s just the way that life goes. You must learn to accept everything that comes your way and trust that good or bad, everything happens for a reason.

You may not know what that reason is at the time, but when you look back, you’ll see how all the dots magically connect.

Learn to let go.

Admittedly, this is one of the toughest ones. It’s hard to accept when something isn’t meant to be. This can be in terms of your career, academics, or personal life.

Need excitement.

Some people love the comfort of having a routine, and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, everyone needs excitement in their life, whether or not they choose to believe it.

There’s nothing that compares to the fast-paced heartbeat and rush of emotions you feel when you decide to do something that both scares you and excites you at the same time.

Open up.

It may not always be easy, but there is something to be said when you are able to let your guard down.

Take a deep breath, and tear down your walls.

Give yourself a chance to love and be loved without anything holding you back.

Pursue your passions.

Myth: You can’t be successful and pursue your passions at the same time.

The truth is you can actually do both; it may take extra effort on your part, but it is possible, and is definitely worth the blood, sweat, and tears.

If it’s something you love doing, by all means, go for it.

Quit bad habits.

Here’s to getting rid of the things that you would be way better off without; they’re doing you more harm than good, and you know it.

Whether it’s comparing yourself to others, smoking, bad hygiene, speaking before thinking, or anything in between, realizing that there is a problem to begin with is the first step to solving it.

If it really takes 21 days to make or break a habit, it can only benefit you to try to quit yours today.

Reminisce.

This requires you to look back on the things that have happened. Although, it doesn’t mean you have to hold on the past.

It simply means that you should be able to acknowledge all the good that has passed and let it drive you for an even brighter future.

Plus, reminiscing about fond memories is always a great way to put a smile on your face.

Smile often.

Why? Because a smile is a curve that sets everything straight; enough said.

Trust your heart.

Granted, your heart isn’t always the wisest.

(Say it louder for the people in the back, am I right?)

Although, when it comes to chasing your dreams and doing what you love, it always knows best.

The road to happiness is rarely the most logical one; it is often the one with the most detours and speed bumps along the way, and your heart is the best navigator to help you get there.

Understand what you can, and accept what you cannot.

Nowadays, whenever you have a question, there’s something you can always turn to: Google. In life, however, the answers don’t always come so easy. Sometimes you’ll instantly realize why something had to happen, but other times, you’ll just have to accept that some things happen simply because they do.

There are 86,400 seconds in a day; why waste even one trying to wrap your head around something you can’t control?

Volunteer.

There are people who publicize their large donations for all the world to know.

Then there are those who work wholeheartedly behind-the-scenes to give back whether or not others find out.

There is more fulfillment in being the latter.

When it comes to helping those in need, there is no recognition required, because knowing that you’ve made an impact is a reward in itself.

Wander.

Why stay stuck in a place you know like the back of your hand when there’s 196,900,000 square miles of the world you can see?

You’re free to take a road trip or a plane ride halfway around the world.

Just be sure to enjoy every step of the journey.

You never know; you could find joy in learning a new language, discovering more about other cultures, trying different cuisines, or marveling at the countless wonders of the world, both natural and man-made.

X-out the “what-if”s.

Accept where you are, what you’ve become, and what you’ve done to get here. Find peace in knowing that despite all the other paths you could’ve chosen, you ended up exactly where you were meant to be.

Yearn for improvement.

There is no best; there is only better.

No one’s asking you to pressure yourself, just asking you to find it in yourself to know when there’s still something you can improve

Zero in on making others happy as well.

Out of all the no-brainer ways to find happiness, this one is hands down the most important.

Think about how many simple gestures made you smile.

Now, think about the power you have to share that same feeling with those around you.

While being on the receiving end of it is great, the greatest happiness in the world is making others happy.

Okay, maybe now you’re consciously trying to follow these no-brainer ways to find happiness, but trust that it won’t always be this way. With the right mindset and a positive outlook on life, happiness is sure to find you.

    I definitely agree with crossing out the “what-if”s! I’ve wasted so much time and energy replaying past events in my mind and wishing I did things differently. Not only is that pointless, but I do truly believe that things happened exactly the way they should have. Also, you have a great point about giving love rather than wishing for love. Whenever I feel myself yearning for love and friendship, I turn it around and instead ask, “How can I show love? How can I be a good friend?” Then things always turn around!

    I love your A – Z. I was trying to decide on my favourite, but I can’t..sorry. Possibly Hold on to hope, but then again, could be Enjoy the Little Things. I just wrote a post about that myself. I believe the small things are actually big things.

    LOVE this & that you did it in an ABC format. PRINTING THIS & posting it so I see it daily. Eventually it’ll be as easy as singing my ABCs to keep them in mind at all times. Happiness is not a destination, it requires effort & practice. Great read!

    Forgive and forget is a good tip. It wastes so much of our time just sitting around thinking about the past or not getting over something. This goes right into the love tip as well, because you have to have love in your heart to be able to forgive.
